Osteopenia/Osteoporosis News:

1. A new drug builds bone both by slowing the work of osteoclasts and stimulating osteoblasts. It has been approved for use in the UK and 26 other European nations. Protelos (strontium ranelate) is manufactured by Servier, a French firm. Clinical trials have shown it to be useful in preventing fractures - both vertebral and non-vertebral.

Protelos has a number of advantages. For example, it can be taken before bedtime (no standing upright for a half hour). There is so much to say about Protelos I can not cover it all here. I put together a special page about Protelos at: (You may need to copy and past the url into your browser.)

2. Protelos has not yet been approved by the FDA for distribution in the USA. But it is in phase 3 clinical trials and these look postiive.

3. A number of physicians who include natural alternatives in their practice have been talking about natural strontium for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis for some time.

Strontium ranelate (Protelos) is a semi-synthetic form of strontium, so a drug company can patent it. But strontium exists in natural state as strontium lactate, strontium gluconate, and strontium carbonate.

Again, I have prepared a page about natural Strontium. You will find it at

By the way, these special pages are NOT yet available to visitors to the web site. There are only available to Newsletter subscribers right now, so save this e-mail if you want to visit the sites again this week. You will need the urls.

Tip of the month.

If you take calcium supplents, do take at least part of your daily dose with food just before bedtime. The food will make the calcium more absorbable and the calcium moderates the effects of PTH which is more active when you sleep.

A small gift for you.

Greenzap, a web site like Pay Pal, is open for business. I registered. And as an newsletter/business owner, I obtained the right to give you a special code to receive $25 if you start an account. Yes, it is the opening promo. I expect that like Pay Pal, they will end the promo as soon as they get enough folks in the system so it is better to do it soon rather than later . Just click on this link: with the zapgift in it.

I do wish you all the best in your efforts to build stronger bones.

Until next month, Kate
