Dear readers

Dec. 2021 Osteopenia, Osteoporosis News

It has been awhile since you have heard from me. Why? A combination of nothing new to say and a bit of depression as a result of the isolation from our Covid lockdown. . But I am back. I have been adding to the web site and expect to get into full swing as we start 2022. .

One of the things I discovered this month is a study published in China showing a connection between hypertension (high blood pressure) and Osteoporosis. The study was published in March of 2021. I hope to put the details on the Causes page of the web site before the end of this year because I think this study is important. .

Having found this Chinese research study about hypertension and Osteoporosis, I began to explore the issue. After all many people have high blood pressure. .

Then just today I found another study - this one was about men who use Lasix to control their high blood pressure.

The researcher found that the use of Lasix to control high blood pressure was associated with bone loss! I was amazed and immediately wondered if the same was true for women using Lasix..

If you want more information, here is a link to an article about it. https://www.reuters.com/article/us- heart-diuretics-idUSN1139348320080414.

So not only is having high blood pressure a possible cause of bone loss but also a common treatment for high blood pressure can also be a cause of Osteopenia and Osteoporosis.

I post this as a 'heads up' so if you have high blood pressure and are on lasix to control your blood pressure, you may want to discuss the issue with your physician. (Please do NOT stop any prescribed drug on your own! That, as you know, could be very dangerous).

I realize that this particular newsletter may not apply to every subscriber. Some of you may not have hypertensionat all. If so, I thank you for your patience..

Finally, as we come to the end of the year, I want to wish you well. It has been a difficult year for many. My hope is that 2022 will find the demise of the current pandemic, that animosity between people and nations will diminish and that peace grounded in justice will grow in our homes, communities and throughout the world.

Thanks for reading and I promise that in 2022 this newsletter will return to monthly publication.

Kate
