Osteopenia, Osteoporosis News Iune 2025 June 09, 2025 |
Dear readersJune 2025 - Osteopenia, Osteoporosis NewsDear Friends, It is June - coming into summer for those of you in the Northern Hemisphere and coming into winter for those in the Southern Hemisphere. In my experience seasonal changes often affect my own attempts to keep my bones strong and prevent additional fractures. I think I may have mentioned before that I have had some fractures. That is what led me to read research studies and use some of what I learned to reverse my bone loss. And as my bone density increased, I decided to put together this web site which covers just about every treatment that can increase bone density and prevent fractures. Among the pages concerning fracture prevention, I think that those about balance exercises may be the most important. If you do not fall, you are less likely to suffer a fracture. And preventing fractures is the whole point of treating Osteopenia, Osteoporosis. So, consider your balance. How long can you stand on one foot? Try it today. Is it 1 minute? 2? or even 5? When testing your balance be sure you are in a doorway or next to a large piece of furniture so you can grab on, if you can begin to topple. Suggestion: practicing every day so as to increase your balance is a VERY helpful thing to do if your aim is to prevent fractures. Oh, and if you have children or grandchildren doing some timed balance exercises with them....or even contests to see who can stand on 1 foot the longest might not only be fun but might prevent them from falls and broken bone. Remember that many of today's youth spend more time on their cell phones than they do walking or running. I really want to empathize these points, so I shall not add another bone density topic today. But I do want to add an apology. It seems that Google has increased the size of their ads. They look terrible. I do not know what to do. I need the income from their ads but... I have thought of making much the site only available by subscription but I do not want to close out persons on limited income. Many readers used to make purchases through the Products page but that has petered out. If you have any suggestions I would be glad to hear them. Finally I add a personal note. Next month I shall turn 90. Yes, 90 years of age. Women in my family, the ones with my body shape often live to 97 or 98 so I think I may have awhile. As I reflect on the years, I realize I have had my share of drivers running red lights and stop signs and totaling my car, got through polio and done my dances with cancer, chronic lyme, osteoporosis etc. So, it is a privilege to still be of use to others.....to be able to use my skills to translate academic research into ordinary language so you and others might benefit. Thanks for reading. |
