Osteopenia and healing

Osteopenia and healing.  If you have been diagnosed with Osteopenia, you are lucky. Lucky?

Yes, because getting your bone loss diagnosed while it is at the Osteopenia stage gives you opportunity to rebuild your bones before they deteriorate further...before you develop the more serious bone loss of Osteoporosis. Now...

Osteoporosis means 'porous bones'. Osteoporosis diagnosis means that a person has lost so much bone that there are open spaces where there ought to be solid bone. Because the of their loss of so much bone, a person with Osteoporosis is at real risk of fracture....sometimes they can have what appears to be a 'spontaneous fracture' - one that can occur even though the person might not have a severe fall.

Osteopenia means that there is 'a little' bone loss. ( See the images below. ) And if your bone loss has been diagnosed when it is at this stage you have a real opportunity to build new, stronger bones before they get any weaker.  Osteopenia and healing is easier than Osteoporosis and healing. But you need to act now.

How is Osteopenia and healing done?

First, your health care provider may prescribe a pharmaceutical drug or s/he may make suggestions about weight bearing exercises.which can increase bone density.

Second, your health care provider my prescribe some Pharmeceutical drugs to help reverse your bone loss and since you will want to be extra sure that you do not have a fall and suffer a fracture while waiting for your Osteopenia and healing to succeed, you may want to review start daily  balance exercises to prevent falls.

But you can go further. There are other things you can do to help yourself and none of them need a prescription from your physician.

What caused your bone loss?

You might want to ask yourself, what are ALL the reasons I have developed  so much bone loss? If so, read the page about Causes of Osteopenia, Osteoporosis. If you know what has caused your bone loss, you will be able to make changes that will eliminate some of those causes.

Also, you may want to read about some of the Natural Treatments for Osteoporosis or Osteopenia. Some countries have long traditions of  treating Osteopenia and Osteoporosis without using pharmaceutical drugs.  And the good news is that there are scientific studies that show these non-pharmaceutical methods work....and some of these treatments have far fewer side effects than some of the drugs currently prescribed to reverse bone loss. Finally, while you are waiting for your bones to become strong again, youwill want to do everything you can to prevent any falls since falling is the cause of so many Osteoporosic fractures . (Remember that we lose a small percent of our balance each year as we age - which is why so many older persons have falls) But we can strengthen our balance, just as we can strengthen muscles.
