Genestra CAL MAG liquid product review This formula contains calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide and Vitamin D3 in a sweetened liquid. The directions are to take one or two tablespoons twice each day with meals.

This supplement is made by Seroyal a natural pharmaceutical company that was founded in 1984. Genestra is their brand.Seroyal also distributes Unda supplements.

I note these many different formulations because this page is only reviewing 1 of them: Cal Mag Liquid and it wouldbe a mistake to apply the comments on this page to any of the other Generstra products.

Review of Genestra Cal Mag formula

There are no scientific studies in peer reviewed journals about this supplement.

The manufacturer, Genestra states that there have been independent tests of the formula but they do not give any details about what aspect of the formula was tested, who did the test, when it was done or the results.

They do say that they confirm "each ingredient’s potency, weight variation, disintegration time and the absence of heavy metals, bacteria, E. coli, salmonella, yeasts, mold and other contaminants."See: Seroyal web site Genestra Cal Mag liquid by Seroyal

Ingredients in this supplement

Each tablespoon of this liquid contains:

  • calcium carbonate 600mg
  • magnesium oxide 300 mg
  • vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)100 IU

These are in a liquid: a "pleasant tasting fruit punch or spearmint flavor free of aluminum and sodium, and designed for optimal digestion and absorption. The sweeteners used in the liquid fruit punch are from apple, grapes, strawberries and pineapple.

The recommended Dosage for adults is One or two tablespoons, two times daily with meals. This means that if one tookthe maximum recommended dosage of 4 tablespoons, one would have ingested:

  • Calcium carbonates 2400 mg
  • magnesium oxide 1200 mg
  • Vitamin D3 400 mg

The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for these nutrients are :

  • Calcium is the average daily dietary intake level for Age 19 - 50 years is 1000 mg and for those Over Age 51 years it is 1200 mg.
  • Magnesium - the recommendation used to be 1/2 the calcium intake. This has been revised by a numberof physicians to a 3/2 ratio and a few even suggest a 1 to 1 ratio of calcium and magnesium.
  • Vitamin D - there is no RDA for vitamin D. But an Adequate Intake (AI) -- a level of intake sufficient to maintain healthy blood levels of an active form of vitamin D -- has been established. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends recommends that adults 50 and under get 400-800 International Units (IU) of vitamin D3 daily, and that adults 50 and over get 800-1,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily.

Other necessary factors for bone growth It has been shown that a number of Vitamins eg. Vitamin K and several trace minerals including boron, silica and zinc are essential for the bonebuilding process to take place.
